Loyola Spring Break: Why SO Early?

Writer: Lindsay NoldenLindsay Nolden

For Loyola University Chicago undergraduate students, spring break comes very early compared to that of most schools. Loyola student's 2019 spring break begins on March 4th and ends on March 9th. In contrast, both University of Illinois at Chicago and Colombia College Chicago have their spring breaks the week of March 25th through March 29th. As one can see, Loyola's spring break occurs at the opposite end of the month compared to that of other schools. However, Loyola students end up getting the privilege of two breaks in the spring semester, a spring break and an Easter holiday break.

Below is a short interview podcast I conducted about Loyola's early spring break. What do students think about their early spring break you may wonder? Although many students wish their spring break was earlier so the weather was nicer and they could celebrate with students who attend other universities, Loyola students also account for the fact that they have two breaks total. Having two breaks in such a short duration of time hopefully justifies Loyola's spring break being on the earlier side.

Two breaks is better than one right?

Going to a Jesuit University we also had a spring break and an Easter break. My favorite was my Freshman year when they combined them and we had a full 2 week’s off! Hope you all enjoy your time off!
