As the weather on campus gets nicer, Loyola University Chicago undergraduate students have final exams coming up. We went out and asked students how they felt about finals season approaching and the spring semester coming to a close.
Now that you have seen how these Loyola students are feeling about finals, here are three ways that help me, and will hopefully help you, to cope with final exam stress:
One: Be Prepared!
Preparation ultimately leads to success. Many students' end of the year fears stem from not being fully prepared. Take the time to sit down and write a list of things you need to finish before the semester closes. Then, write out your final exam schedule so you can plan the best times to study. Early preparation gives you time to identify material that you need help with from your professors. The earlier you start preparing, the better you will feel and the more likely it is that you will prevent a last-minute panic.
Two: Study With Others.
Every student is affected by final exam stress, why not endure it together? Ask other students in your classes if they would be willing to study with you. Creating study groups holds you accountable for studying, as well as helps you fill in the gaps of anything you are unsure about. Being able to speak about and explain class information to others is a great way to study. Also, spending time with a group of people makes studying feel less difficult and strenuous, because after all, you are all in this together.
Three: Take Care of Yourself.
Last but not least, do not overexert yourself. It is important to take time to sleep, relax and have fun when you are not studying or preparing. Without proper rest, you will not study effectively, and therefore not do well on your tests. Try to only study in two-hour increments, and use your study breaks to go do something that makes you happy. Always remember, your health comes first. At the end of the day, it is just an exam, so try your best and take care of yourself.
In addition to these tips, the Loyola Wellness Center, in partnership with Loyola University Libraries, offers resources to help students destress during finals week. These resources are put in place to specifically assist students, so take advantage of them because it will only benefit you and your health in the long run.
